Dr. Kavanagh conducts clinical and translational research investigating specialized techniques of radiation therapy and the effects of radiation alone or in combination with systemic agents for a variety of cancers. He has authored more than 100 cancer-related papers and reviews, and he edited the first textbook of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). He currently is the principal investigator of a clinical trial of SBRT for early prostate cancer that is funded by the Department of Defense. He is an active member of the Health Policy Council of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and has co-authored the ASTRO guidelines on SBRT and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
